In this frame the research of the Group is focused on catalysts development for valorization of residual fatty biomass (Used Cooking Oil, Animal Fats, Fatty Acid Distillates, etc.) and biogass via biofuel (mainly green diesel) and H2 production, respectively.

Biomass is a renewable resource for biochemicals production. The research interest of the group has been focused on the development of catalysts based on Greek minerals for accelerating the transformation of biomolecules into value-added products.
Photocatalysis has been investigated as a promissed method performed at mild conditions, being suitable not only for environmental protection (organic molecules mineralization in water) but for organic synthesis, also.
The purification of exhaust gases produced by both mobile and stationary sources has been based mainly on catalytic processes. The research team has leveraged its experience in the synthesis of solid catalysts to contribute to the development of suitable catalysts for these processes.

Equilibrium-Deposition-Filtration (EDF) method results in supported catalysts not only with hihg active phase dispersion but also with specific active phase species interacting with the support surface already from the impregnation step. The EDF method is based on the tuning the adsorption of active phase precursor species by fine regulation of impregnation parameters (pH, concentration, ionic strength, etc.).
Heterogeneous catalysts performance can be regulated by doping them with various dopants influencing the supporting properties, the acidity and stability of their support. Our group has search the influence of several dopants on the physicochemical characteristics and catalytic performance of supported catalysts.
